How do you support the cakes using Logicpic Foam Core Boards and Drums?

We provide a Support System that is Strong, Dependable, and Low cost.

It consist of  Hexagon support frames with Leg receivers to hold Wooden dowel rods for legs, and allows the use of a center stabilizer rod to keep all the cakes centered and stable. See Specifications page, Or  Support Examples.

But if you can't afford that system, You can support the foam core boards in the same manor you would support any cardboard cake board. Books show many ways you can support your cakes.

When using foam core boards without our support system or any other type board you should always secure your cakes to the board using stakes or Icing, to keep your cake in place. If you use our support system with our center stabilizer rod stakes should not be needed.

Make sure your bottom Drum under all the cakes, is strong enough to support all of the cake above without bending.

Normally you would use a 1/2" thick Drum about 2" Larger than your bottom Cake at the bottom. Then use 3/16 thick Boards, or 1/2 thick Drums the Std. size of the cakes being stacked, or our Plus size 3/16 larger then the cakes being stacked to get the effect you desire.

I notice that the Leg receivers on the hex frames are not all straight, will this affect my cake support system?

No it will not affect the support of your cake. The leg receivers are welded to the Hex frame, and when the Plastic melts it does not always stay straight. The Holes that are drilled in the leg receivers are drilled after the receivers are welded, and the holes will be straight, and square with the Hex frame. The legs should stand straight.

How can I get my bottom cake centered on the base board?

With all cakes you can use a standard 3/16" thick separator plate the size of the bottom cake. This will give you a center hole to guide your bottom cake down the center support rod. If you are concerned about the separator plate slipping on the base board you can use some Elmer's non toxic white glue, or royal icing to temporally bond the two boards together.

Will Icing stain the foam core of the Boards?

It has been our experience that the icing does not stick to the foam core of the board. If you get Icing in the foam it should just pull out. This would suggest that you pull the icing off the foam core and don't just wipe it off. The foam core is waterproof and oil resistant, so no staining should occur if you are using a water, or oil soluble color.
